Dixie Chicks and Toby Keith team up for climate campaign
The Dixie Chicks and Toby Keith can agree on one thing: the climate is changing and we must do something to stop harming the environment. That will be the main message of a commercial spot starring both acts that will air as part of former Vice President Al Gore's campaign against climate change.Gore's campaign, titled "We Campaign," is a $300 million initiative aimed to build a grassroots movement to halt global warming. The official kickoff was April 2, with the launch of print and television ads, as well as a new Web site.
Neither act were available for comment.
The Dixie Chicks' lead singer Natalie Maines and Keith butted heads in 2002 and 2003 after Maines criticized Keith's #1 hit "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue," saying "I hate it. It's ignorant.." After Maines criticized President Bush in 2003, Keith began showing pictures of Maines with then-Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on the mega-tron screen during his concert shows. The two have since stopped feuding.
Gore, a Nobel Prize winner, has announced that "We Campaign" will bring together other unlikely pairs, like Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat, and former House Speaker and GOP leader Newt Gingrich, or the Revs. Pat Robertson and Al Sharpton.
